Nikolai was born in 1957 in Pushkin.  He graduated in 1980 from Art College and then went on to graduate in 1987 from the Repin Institute of Arts with a prestigious Silver Medal. His work has grown from cubism, and the art of Cezanne.  He was one of two Russian artists who were invited to participate in ‘Festival’ – an exhibition arranged to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Fauvism, held in France in 2007.

In 2008 he won a Silver Medal for ‘Contribution to Domestic Culture’ from the International Federation of Artists, and in 2012 his artistic legacy and contribution was recognised again with Gold Medal from the Federation.

His work is held in the Art Museum of the Academy of Arts in St Petersburg, the State Art Museum of Novosibirsk, in the Palace of Arts of Perpignan, and the Museum of Art in Cambrai, as well as being in private collections around the world.
